Local Coffee Made to Travel

Chalkboard Designs & Wall Art

INTRO

In the heart of Kansas City, MO was a hotel being built called Lowe’s Hotel. It was nearing completion at the beginning of 2020, but as we all experienced together in the world, the pandemic was a bit of a set back for this project.

Before the pandemic started, I was asked to paint the menu, logo & many of the crates they were hoping to present in their tie-in cafe called Red Wheat Baking Company. Thankfully, they halted to construction of the hotel & allowed all employees to be safe at home. This created a perfect opportunity to start on the boards & wall in privacy work safely in the abandoned hotel.

Concept

The menu was a straight-forward design that was made easy to read for all coffee goers. A modern farmhouse aesthetic was the driving factor when you walk into the cafe. All of the coffee was provided from a local lender, a long with many of the ingredients that came with the food & beverages. Anyone who was from out of town in a hurry staying at the hotel could expect a sliver of Kansas City from this connected experience.

Red Wheat Baking Company has a logo that’s a simple doodle of a croissant. This logo was painted on the wall right next to the entrance of the cafe being 6.5’ x 6.5’.

Michael Welsh & Thomas Tuner were the two individuals directing me on the project. They ensured that I had access to the building during the strict pandemic regulations at the time & created a clean & safe environment while working on the designs for multiple days.

Result

Later that year, the hotel was finally unveiled to the public - along with their tie-in cafe. You could come to this cafe even if you weren’t staying at the hotel. It provides a piece of Kansas City that any coffee lover would appreciate.

“ Greg was very easy to work with, professional and completed excellent work. We have maintained our relationship for almost two years now and he has assisted with several other projects at the hotel. We will continue to work with Greg as business dictates and would recommend him to anyone needing his craft.”
